But don't get caught up in reasoning you need to have all to start your scrapbooking hobby. Start small and build up your kit over time with our 'must have' list of top 10 items:
Patterned Sheet Sets
1. Card Stock (also called cover stock or pasteboard)
Card/cover stock is a thicker paper that is used for the pages of your album and must always be acid free. When buying card stock crusade it is a lot economy to buy multi packs of 10-50 in colors you will ordinarily use.
2. Lighter Weight Patterned Paper
Patterned papers are lighter in weight than card stock and come in a huge range of colors. Scrapper's use them along with the background card stock as well as for photo mats, lettering etc. They come in a huge rage of patterns and colors and can be mixed and matched to generate unique designs.
3. Paper Trimmer (or Cutter)
A 12 inch paper cutter is one tool that you can't do without. Paper cutters are either rotary (a round blade that slides along a fixed ruler) or guillotine style and both produce precise, clean cuts.
4. Medium Sized Scissors
All scrappers need at least one pair of high ability craft scissors for information work. Treat yourself to the best ability pair you can find, look after them well and you will have them for many years to come.
5. Adhesives/Glue etc
What adhesive you opt to use is definitely a personal selection and most scrappers have a selection depending on the scheme they are working on. There are many, many options to choose from here such as glue dots, photo tab dispensers, tape runners etc. Any one you conclude on must be specifically for scrapbooking ie: acid free.
6. Journal Pens
Acid-free journal pens and markers are used to write on your pages. This is what scrapper's mean when they say 'journaling'. If you're like me then your journaling pen variety may seem to take on a life of its own but in the beginning black is the most versatile color to start with.
7. Stencils (or Templates)
A template or stencil lets you trace your own fun shapes, letters and embellishments. either trace onto the scrapbook page or onto card stock, patterned paper etc to be cut out.
8. Sketches/Layout Inspiration
Beginners often find they have their supplies but don't know where to start. Sketches/layouts supply a plan for your page and kick starts your creativity. Knowing you have a set of plans for your page helps you to produce expert pages every time.
9. Album(s)
Your albums store your complete pages. Most come in acceptable card stock sizes. You can also make your own if you are feeling particularly creative.
10. Page Protectors/Sheet Protectors
Sheet/page protectors are used in completed albums. They protect your pages in the completed album. They forestall photos from sticking to one another. They might not be as glamorous as other supplies but they are very important.
The world of scrapbooking supplies is vast but these will get your scrapper's kit off to a great start.
